What “remote” really means in games.

A remote role can open up your possibilities. The useful question is whether its practical details fit your life.

Start with where the studio can hire.

Remote does not automatically mean worldwide. Studios may employ people only in countries where they have an entity or employment partner. Read the eligible locations before investing time in an application. If the information is missing, ask the recruiter.

Understand the hours, not just the time zone.

A team may expect specific overlap for planning, reviews, or multiplayer testing. Ask which hours are required, how often meetings happen, and whether the team follows daylight saving changes.

Clarify the working arrangement.

An employee role and an independent contract offer different arrangements. Confirm the employment type, compensation currency, payment schedule, equipment, and expected contract length with the studio.

Make a decision with the whole picture.

Compare responsibilities, pay, hiring eligibility, collaboration hours, and the interview process. Save a short note about what matters to you so you can compare roles consistently.
